Leash Safety and Your Pet

Leash Safety and Your Pet

PhilaPets' philosophy of "treating each animal as we would our own" is paramount in achieving superb quality pet care. We are not only serving pets, we are serving their parents. Communication, honesty, and mutual understanding are key to providing excellent customer service and pet care. There are many precautions that our Pet Care Specialists take every day when handling your pet, one of which is quality of the leash, collar or harness used when walking. PhilaPets has adopted a new Leash Policy to help ensure animal safety when your pet is under our care.

We understand the convenience of a long extending leash can be great in certain settings, however, we feel it is not the safest tool for daily walking in a high traffic area like the city. The thin thread can (and has been known to) snap without warning and the extended length of such leashes can prevent the Pet Care Specialists from optimally controlling your dog and/or any scenario that may present itself (approaching dogs, bicycles, cars, etc.)

Throughout our many years of experience, we have found the safest and most successful tool to be a standard 4" latched flat leash. We have advised all of our Pet Care Specialist to use such leashes in place of the Flexi or extended leashes.
