Philadelphia Dog Licensing

Did you know that you are required to register your dog with the city of Philadelphia?

All dogs 4 months of age and older must be vaccinated for rabies and licensed annually with the City of Philadelphia. Philadelphia and Pennsylvania law both require the licensing of dogs. The license issued by the City satisfies the requirements of both laws.

Flea and Tick Season is Here!

As the weather gets warmer it is a good reminder to make sure that your pets are up to date on their preventative flea and tick treatments. This includes your indoor city cats.

The VCA Animal Hospital has put together a great pamphlet on "Flea and Tick Control". They warn that even if you keep your pet completely indoors, fleas and ticks can still be carried inside your home by other pets or on your clothing.

Fleas and ticks on cats vs. dogs:

• Ticks are more often found on dogs than cats.
• Dogs are more prone to flea allergies.
• Owners often miss signs of fleas in cats because they mistake the cat's discomfort for normal grooming behavior.
• Fleas typically bug dogs on the rump, thighs, and stomach; cats are more affected on the face, neck, and back.
• Very important! Be sure that you always use only cat products on cats and dog products on dogs.
