PhilaPets News and Information
Red Cross Walk
It is almost here! This Saturday, April 22nd, is the Red Cross Walk!
It is not too late to join in the walk. The Red Cross Walk is a dog friendly event walk that loops around Memorial Hall in Fairmount Park three times and is 6.2 miles long. The scenic route passes through the gardens at the Horticultural Center and past the Japanese Tea House.
The PhilaPets.com team is made up of Clients, Pet Care Specialists, and their pets. We have raised over $2,500 so far and still going.
If you haven't taken advantage of the free visit, the offer is still good. Any client that makes a tax-deductible donation of $15.00 or more will receive a free pet visit. That is the same amount as the cost of the visit so why not add a little bit more? Limit one free visit per client.
If you would like to participate in the event, or have your dogs participate (with or without you), please email walk@philapets.com and let us know. We want to have as many dogs as possible to show why they are called man's best friend! Each participant, human or dog, must make a donation (or raise donations) of at least $150 to participate. All participants will receive a special PhilaPets.com t-shirt and the official Red Cross Walk t-shirt.
For more information about participating in the event or sponsoring someone, see Our Red Cross team page.
Ginger is doing well with her fund raising. She has already brought in more then $500. Not bad for a dog just over one-year old.
For those of you that have not met Ginger, she is a dog that we adopted about six months ago, and has become a local celebrity. When she was six months old, she almost died in an Animal Shelter in New York City. Thanks to the caring people in the New York Mayor's Alliance and the amazing surgeons and clinicians at the Ryan Veterinary Hospital at the University of Pennsylvania, she is alive today and healthy enough to help others. To read more about Ginger, please see the article that was published in the Winter 2005 Bellwether.
Hope to see you at the park!
Kelliann's New Year Resolution
My New Year's resolution is to find someone to love so I'm not messing around! If your resolution is to find a companion too, send me an email! I'm a smart, funny, single black and white female. I'm an easy gal to please- I love cuddling at home, sharing romantic homemade meals (or just cat food) and wouldn't ever ask for more than a nice home with a comfy couch, a bowl of cat food, a clean litterbox, and that special someone.
Anyone interested can contact Natalie at cares4pets@hotmail.com.
Missing Dog, Auggie
Auggie, has been missing since last Sunday. Flyers have been put up all over the city, but the city has managed to take most of them down.
He was taken from outside of the Academy House on Locust between Broad and 15th. The picture is of him at 3 months. Please note that he is now 6 months old and about 15 - 20lbs bigger. Still has a huge head and walks with a swagger due to bad hip. Last seen wearing a choker collar and had a black leash.
If you see Auggie, please call Chelsea at (724) 255-9029 or e-mail her at cga23@drexel.edu with any questions/concerns/ideas/leads. ANYTHING.
Pet Health
Are You Feeding Your Dog Too Much?
In the first lifelong canine diet-restriction study, researchers discovered that Labrador retrievers fed 25 percent less food than their siblings in a control group had a median life span of nearly 2 years longer. The conclusion among participating scientists: Less food in the bowl adds more--and healthier--years to dogs' lives.
