PhilaPets.com Newsletter: Red Cross

We have two Red Cross events that we'd like to promote.

Pet First Aid and CPR
Image: Red Cross First Aid First of all, there is a Pet First Aid and CPR class on Tuesday March 14th from 6:00pm-10:00pm. The class will be held at the Red Cross building on 23rd and Chestnut.

The class covers things like how to give mouth-to-snout resuscitation, how to give the Heimlich maneuver on your pet, burns, uncontrollable bleeding, and much more. It is a great class for anyone that has a pet.

The cost of the class is $60 (normally $75) and includes a Pet First Aid kit, book, and certification. To RSVP, please call Janice at the Red Cross. Her phone number is (215) 299-4047.

Red Cross Walk
Image: Red Cross Walk The Red Cross does so many great things in the Philadelphia area. In addition to helping out our neighbors in their times of need, they develop courses like the pet first aid and CPR program. We want to give back to the Red Cross for all that they do and that is why PhilaPets is participating in the Red Cross Walk on April 22nd.

The Red Cross Walk is a dog friendly event walk that loops around Memorial Hall in Fairmount Park three times and is 6.2 miles long. The scenic route passes through the gardens at the Horticultural Center and past the Japanese Tea House.

Any client that makes a tax-deductible donation of $15.00 or more will receive a free pet visit. That is the same amount as the cost of the visit so why not add a little bit more? Limit one free visit per client.

If you would like to participate in the event, or have your dogs participate (with or without you), please email walk@philapets.com and let us know. We want to have as many dogs as possible to show why they are called man's best friend! Each participant, human or dog, must make a donation (or raise donations) of at least $150 to participate. All participants will receive a special PhilaPets.com t-shirt and the official Red Cross Walk t-shirt.

To participate, please go to http://redcrosswalk.kintera.org/faf/search/searchTeamPart.asp?ievent=156191&lis=1&kntae156191=18A6EA3039C745FEBF54AEE0ED168066&team=1208575

And click on the "Join Our Team" link at the top of the page.

Wait, there is more!

There is going to be a TOP DOG CONTEST! This goes to the dog that can raise the most donations.

Image: Ginger We figure Ginger is a shoo-in. For those of you that have not met Ginger, she is a dog that we adopted about six months ago, and has become a local celebrity. When she was six months old, she almost died in an Animal Shelter in New York City. Thanks to the caring people in the New York Mayor's Alliance and the amazing surgeons at the Ryan Veterinary Hospital at the University of Pennsylvania, she is alive today and healthy enough to help others. To read more about Ginger, please see the article that was published in the Winter 2005 Bellwether.

Please make all donations payable to "American Red Cross WALK" and leave them with your Pet Care Specialist on their next visit or you can mail or drop off your check to 1710A Bainbridge Street, Philadelphia PA 19146. Please write the name of the Pet Care Specialist or dog that you wish to sponsor in the memo field of your check.

Or, you can click on the name of the person or dog that you wish to sponsor in the list to the right and follow the steps to sponsor on-line.

Or, donations can be charged to your PhilaPets.com account. Just send an email to walk@philapets.com letting us know how much you want to donate and what Pet Care Specialist or dog you would like to sponsor.

Hope to see you at the park!
