Red Cross Walk
PhilaPets.com is walking to help support our local Red Cross chapter.
The Step Up Step Out Walk is scheduled for April 22nd; a dog friendly walk that loops around Memorial Hall in Fairmount Park three times and is 6.2 miles long. The scenic route passes through the gardens at the Horticultural Center and past the Japanese Tea House.
Any client that makes a tax-deductible donation of $15.00 or more will receive a free pet visit. That is the same amount as the cost of the visit so why not add a little bit more? Limit one free visit per client.
The Red Cross Walk is dog friendly. There will be a special rest stop for your family friend with refreshments and goodies of all shapes and sizes.
If you would like to participate in the event, or have your dogs participate, please email walk@philapets.com and let us know. We want to have as many dogs as possible to show why they are called man's best friend! Each participant, human or dog, must make a donation (or raise donations) of at least $150 to participate. All participants will receive a special PhilaPets.com t-shirt and the official Red Cross Walk t-shirt.
For dog entries, a Pet Care Specialist will pick your dog up that morning for the walk of their life. Availability for dogs is on a first come basis. Dogs must get along with other dogs and walk well on a leash. Please email walk@philapets.com for availability and registration.
Wait, there is more!
There is going to be a TOP DOG CONTEST! This goes to the dog that can raise the most donations.
We figure Ginger is a shoo-in. For those of you that have not met Ginger, she is a dog that we adopted about six months ago, she is kind of a local celebrity. When she was six months old, she almost died in an Animal Shelter in New York City. Thanks to the caring people in the New York Mayor's Alliance and the amazing surgeons at the Ryan Veterinary Hospital at the University of Pennsylvania, she is alive today and healthy enough to help others. For Ginger's full story, see the article that was published in the Winter 2005 Bellwether.
Please make all donations payable to "American Red Cross WALK" and leave them with your Pet Care Specialist on their next visit or you can mail or drop off your check to 1710A Bainbridge Street, Philadelphia PA 19146. Please write the name of the Pet Care Specialist or dog that you wish to sponsor in the memo field of your check.
Or, you can also make donations online at http://www.redcrosswalk.org or go directly to our team page.
You can choose to register yourself or sponsor a walker. If the Pet Care Specialist that you wish to sponsor is not listed, just let us know and we will get them registered.
Or, donations can be charged to your PhilaPets.com account. Just send an email to walk@philapets.com letting us know how much you want to donate and what Pet Care Specialist or dog you would like to sponsor.
Please help us raise money for this great organization and help us help our neighbors. We have set a goal of $3,000 and need your help to get there. Feel free to send this information to friends and family.
Hope to see you at the park!
Max Needs a Loving Home
Hi, my name is Max. I am a sweetheart of a dog but my old family could no longer give me the love and attention I deserve.
I love other dogs, cats and kids and would be happy to share my home with them (supervised of course!). My previous owner said I can get a bit anxious but as long as I take my medication and have my crate nearby in case I need a moment by myself; I am cool as a cucumber.
I've only been staying with my foster mom for a little while, but we are already having tons of fun going for walks and playing in the dog park - she even lets me snuggle in her bed! My foster mom thinks the remedy to my excitement is the love and attention I didn't used to get and some challenges in life, I've already learned clicker training and can walk on a gentle leader, and I can go off-leash and listen when you call my name to come back. I also sit, stay, down, and shake. I love to chew bones as well. My foster mom is a vet student and would love to keep me, but she is leaving the country for 3 months this summer. Still, I would much rather find a new family to love!
I am altered, housetrained, and had a few visits at Penn this week to see the doctor and make sure that I am 100% ready for my new home. I was a perfect angel for my shots!
If you are interested in adopting Max, please email Lisa for more information.
City Kitties Needs Foster Homes
"City Kitties is a small, volunteer-run, no-kill cat rescue dedicated to saving and improving the lives of stray cats in the West Philadelphia area.
City Kitties receives requests to help stray cats and kittens everyday, but we simply don't have the room to house them. We can only help as many cats as we have foster homes. By opening your home to these animals, you can literally save lives!" Read more about fostering.
